The Common Ground Company
The Common Ground Company’s unique blend of Bluegrass, Americana, and Folk have been dazzling the Twin Cities since the fall of 2015. Led by Steph Snow’s powerful vocals and piano, Jorgen Wadkins (guitar), Pete Whitemen (bass), Zach Tauer (banjo), and Jake Rohde (mandolin) blend their acoustic instruments to create a driving, dynamic soundscape.
The Common Ground Company’s versatile style and musicianship make them a perfect fit from loud dive bars or clubs to quietly listening rooms and everything in-between. With a strong arsenal of originals and covers that spans the history of American music, they provide a little of something for everyone.
“There aren’t a lot of bluegrass songs about same-sex relationships, but Twin Cities Americana folk band The Common Ground Company decided to change that. On their new tune, “Emit’s Daughter,” the title character (named Maryann) breaks with her family’s strict traditionalism and begins dating a woman, much to Emit’s shotgun-sportin’ chagrin. The strum-happy five-piece took to a pier on Wisconsin’s Lake Winnebago to tell the tale, enduring a 30-degree breeze as they sing into the wind.”
